After becoming an eHealth Exchange participant, you choose whether to add Carequality. There is no additional network participation fee to get started. You’re in control.
What is Carequality?
Carequality is a framework – a library of technical and policy agreements, as well as a full governing structure.
Much like telecommunications carriers follow a framework so their customers can call one another across competing networks, Carequality provides the policies and governance enabling participants on our network to connect with others – including those using athenahealth, CommonWell Health Alliance, Epic, eClinicalWorks, and others.
All participants must agree to Carequality terms and conditions before being granted access.
Why you need both eHealth Exchange and Carequality?
With eHealth Exchange, you have access to 75% of U.S. hospitals and health systems. Connecting to Carequality expands that access to 95%.
While national frameworks have their place, there continue to be organizations that choose to only connect to eHealth Exchange:
- Food & Drug Administration (FDA)
- Indian Health Service (IHS)
- Most regional and state HIEs
- MyDirectives
- and others
