TEFCA Public Health Reporting: A Breast Cancer Story
Peggy Browerly is a 65-year-old retired factory worker for an oil-based paint and floor finish manufacturer. After feeling a lump in the right, upper outer quadrant (UOQ) on a self-breast exam, the patient makes an appointment with a primary care provider (PCP).
We follow Peggy through her healthcare journey following occupational exposure to polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), through her diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer. Modern data exchange enables the patient’s Primary Care Provider, Surgeon, Oncologist, and Public Health Case Investigators to share data seamlessly.

- California Department of Public Health (CDPH) Cancer Registry
- Bridgehead Software (Healthcare Data Management and Enterprise Imaging features)

Networked FHIR: Scalable Exchange Between Payers, Providers and Public Health
Presenters: Bill Howard (eHealth Exchange) and Keith Brick (Nordic Consulting Partners)
FHIR® data exchange has traditionally been envisioned as point-to-point exchanges between clients and servers with APIs, presenting individual implementation needs between partners.
Networked FHIR introduces a legal and policy “trust” framework and technical components to remove barriers and rapidly scale to reduce time-to-value and comply with regulatory deadlines, including CMS-0057.
This session will explore the existing pain points of scaling FHIR exchange between payers, providers, and public health, the advantages of leveraging Networked FHIR exchange, and the challenges that come with it to ensure the security and privacy of health data.
